About Onioncap
The synchronicity of life and events and consciousness create a story far more interesting than any a human could imagine. And so I am an organizer, teacher, writer, general roust-about troublemaker, with a wonderful family, who loves to see the story unfold and make a comment or two as it does. Please join me.
Good morning Paul,
My name is Alexis Madormo, and I am an intern with Children and Screens. C&S is pleased to invite you to participate in a groundbreaking, invitation only, 4-day virtual research retreat on education technology and virtual learning on May 17 – 20, 2022. This interdisciplinary convening, to be attended by key education, research, policymakers and thought leaders, will address compelling questions about education technology use both inside and outside of the classroom, as well as what we’ve learned and what we need to know in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to elucidate how education technology is shaping teaching practices and learning experiences, its efficacy, and broad impacts on student outcomes – with an emphasis on where to go from here.
We would like to cordially invite you to be a discussant at this timely gathering of eminent scientists, researchers, educators, school administrators, health professionals, clinicians, government agencies and funders. As a discussant, you would prepare a short response and discussion questions based on a pre-recorded presentation on Tuesday, May 17th. At 10:05 AM, you would share your response and join the speaker in a live discussion, drawing from your own questions and those submitted in advance from retreat attendees. We also encourage you to participate actively in the breakout sessions that will follow.
Please let us know if you would like to contribute to these critical conversations. Beyond your role as a discussant, you will have the opportunity to hear presentations from many different researchers and educators along with perspectives in education technology and virtual learning, and you will have the opportunity to join focused breakout groups and discussions. Key retreat topics include: the past, present, and future of edtech, digital divides and access, student data and privacy, barriers to implementation, student learning outcomes, impacts to students’ cognitive, social-emotional, and physical well-being, and more.
Through this interdisciplinary retreat, we will:
Uncover what we know and what we need to know about the use of digital technology in education
Clarify the challenges, successes, and implications for practice, research, and policy
Determine a future research agenda in this area
Assemble a workgroup to collaborate on a post-retreat publication
Provide a forum to discuss new interdisciplinary research proposals that would be funded by $100K–$300K seed grants from Children and Screens
Mark your calendar – 4 half days:
Tuesday, May 17th (10 am – 1 pm ET)
Wednesday, May 18th (10 am – 1 pm ET)
Thursday, May 19th (1 pm – 4 pm ET)
Friday, May 20th (1 pm – 4 pm ET)
Please let me know if you have any questions about the event or your participation.
I hope you will be able to join us; please let me know as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Alexis
